On the second of June the Queen will become the first British monarch to celebrate a platinum jubilee after 70 years of service – and we send our sincere congratulations.
There is a long tradition in our country with the lighting of beacons along our beaches and clifftops to celebrate Jubilees and other significant royal celebrations.
In celebration of Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, over 1,500 Platinum Jubilee Beacons will be lit throughout the United Kingdom, including Folkestone, Sandgate and Hythe, which is one of the famous Cinque Ports.
As part of a programme of events, proceedings for the official lighting of Folkestone’s Beacon at The Leas Bandstand will commence at 8:15 pm on June 2nd, with the lighting of the Beacon at 9:45 pm. Other Beacons will be lit locally at the Battle of Britain Memorial, New Dover Road – the John Moore Memorial, Sandgate Esplanade – and at the car park, Princess Parade, Hythe.
Celebrations also include performances from the 1RGR Pipes & Drums and Shorncliffe Military Wives Choir
On Friday 3rd June, the Churches Together in Hythe and Saltwood – Jubilee Service will take place at 1 pm at Oaklands, Hythe. You are invited to bring along a picnic.
It is likely to be a weekend to remember!
